Haiti - Politic : The right of women still significant challenges

Despite some progress in recent decades, including Senate ratification of regional and international instruments for the protection of women's rights and emancipation, the struggle of the women's movement seems to be weakening.

The increased feminization of poverty and the under-representation of women in power, particularly in Parliament, represent important challenges.

That is why the Senate Committee "Equity of Gender" chaired by Senator Dieudonne Luma Etienne, while addressing proposals for laws and public policies that are priorities for the women's movement https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-24003-icihaiti-politic-tabling-of-a-bill-for-the-protection-of-haitian-women.html a initié le 4 avril dernier a series of monthly talks to facilitate dialogue between parliamentarians and feminist and women's organizations.

This first talk, held in the Senate Committee Room, was moderated by members of the Commission and leaders of the Women's Movement for Education and Development (MOUFHED) around the theme "Legislative texts that discriminate against women" in the presence of parliamentarians, leaders of women's organizations, women leaders and community partners invited to this first talk. Let us note that Eunide Innocent, the Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights was also invited to this talk.
