On Wednesday, the Bonn Conference in Germany (30 April to 10 May) on climate change, which brought together delegates from the 195 signatory countries of the Paris Agreement, opened with a plenary session around the Talanoa Dialogue which is a transparent, participatory and inclusive discussion process traditionally used in the Pacific Islands to solve different types of problems. The objectives are to take stock of progress towards the ultimate goal of the Paris Agreement and to provide country Parties with key information that can be used in future NDCs. Dialogue Talanoa is guided by these three questions: Where are we? Where do we want to go? And how to get there?

The G77 Group and China, as well as the Alliance of Small Island States and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to which Haiti belongs, took the opportunity to recall, inter alia, the need to have an inclusive dialogue that will enable them not only to give the benefit of urgency to the challenge posed by the issue of climate change, but above all to raise the ambitions for reducing emissions and climate finance, including funding for the adaptation of the most vulnerable countries to climate change.

Along with members of the Least Developed Countries group, Haiti has joined its voice to sound the alarm about the need to keep the increase in global temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius "[...] As LDCs, we are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and we also face the new challenge of developing to sustainably move our people out of poverty by switching to renewable energy rather than using fossil fuels [...] LDCs and other developing countries, we can not adequately protect our communities from the effects of climate change or reduce our emissions without the right tools and resources. There is still a large gap between the support needed and the support received.

LDCs call on developed countries to finally deliver on their long-standing promise of mobilizing at least $100 billion a year and to fill the ever-widening financial gap before the distance becomes too big."
