Haiti - Boxing : «Superman» retains its world title

Saturday at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, 40-year-old Quebecker Adonis Stevenson of Haitian origin, born in Port-au-Prince on September 22, 1977, aka "Superman", defended his title of World Champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight against Badou Jack (34) Swede of Gambia origin [born October 31, 1983 in Stockholm].

It came close, but Adonis at 40 years and 11 months retains its WBC light heavyweight title for the ninth time. Stevenson dominated the majority of the exchanges during the first six rounds, but lacked strength in the last 6 who turned to the advantage of his opponent who did not lack energy.

This fight, which could have been a 9th victory for "Superman", ended with a null verdict of the 3 judges. Two of them gave 114-114 while the third, the American Jesse Reyes gave a score of 115-113 to Badou Jack.

At the end of the fight at a press conference, each boxer declared that he had won:

"I think I won this fight, I touched it several times, I put it under constant pressure," said Stevenson.

"I think I clearly won that fight, none of the three judges give him a winner," said Badou Jack

It was an excellent fight and the good news is that the two boxers will get back on the ring in a few months because of a revenge clause in their contract and their respective promoters are ready to sit together.

However, Adonis will has to have a better preparation and he will have to prove that his age is not a handicap...
