Haiti - FLASH : The increase of the prices of petroleum products in the next budget

Thursday, Jude Alix Patrick Salomon, the Minister of Economy and Finance announced that the amending budget 2017-2018 and the budget of the next fiscal year 2018-2019 will be tabled no later than June 30 in Parliament in compliance with the constitutional deadline

Minister Salomon explained that the time taken to prepare these budgets results from the necessary reflections for each State action, insisting that the State can not act without taking into account the financial consequences of its actions. Decisions highlighting "given the very limited international contributions we must ensure that all essential actions are possible during the fiscal year."

Moreover, Solomon confirms that the increase in prices of petroleum products has been taken into account in these budgets, recalling that the state operates illegally by failing to implement the 1995 decree because of socio-political-economic considerations. Confirming that this time "We will apply the 1995 decree that describes how the authorities must proceed to increase or reduce the prices of petroleum products. [Note HL: but also to comply with the commitments made in the "Staff-monitored program" agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) signed late last February https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24021-haiti-economy-towards-further-increases-in-fuel-prices.html ].
