Haiti - Justice : Damning report of RNDDH on the Haitian judiciary (2017-2018)

On the eve of the judicial reentry (1 October 2018), the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) published a 37-page report, detailed and uncompromising on the functioning of the Haitian judiciary for the year 2017-2018.

Orders prohibiting departure against former ministers, the dismissal of the mayor of Pétion-ville by the juridiction of repression, the release of detainees by the Procuratorate of Port-au-Prince, the case of the destruction of houses in Pélerin 54 (close to the residence of Jovenel Moïse), the scandals within the judicial system among others the affair of the Galil gang, Clifford H. Brandt..., the balance sheet of the criminal assizes, the list of the individuals condemned for crime (including their sentences), the cases which have made the judicial chronicle particularly : the murder of 3 young deaf-mute women, the intervention of the PNH in Grand Ravine, the assassination of Father Joseph, the PetroCaribe affair and that of Jean Claude Duvalier and others... are some of the aspects on which the RNDDH has investigated, bringing to light with much precision, many areas of shadows and failures of the Haitian judicial system.

We also learn that the number of people in pre-trial detention between the beginning of the judicial year (2017-2018) and the end of that year, beyond the demagogy of the Ministry of Justice and the Government, does not fell by only 42 people in 1 year, from 8.767 inmates to 8,725 out of a total prison population of 11,979 inmates
