Haiti - Health : 14 children operated on the heart in Haiti successfully

Thanks to the "Gift of Life" efforts of the Rotary Club of Port-au-Prince and the generous donors, 14 Haitian children from disadvantaged backgrounds suffering from cardiac malformation have been successfully operated on the heart from 7 to 12 October 2018. to the St. Damien's Hospital of the Little Brothers and Sisters (Tabarre) congregation, one of the few hospitals in Haiti that meets all standards, able to take care of children with heart disease.

"To carry out such interventions, several specialists must act as surgeons, anesthesiologists, post-operative medical nurses. We do not have all these specialties in Haiti," said Dr. Jacqueline Gautie, Director of the Saint-Damien Hospital, adding "without this program, these children had no possibility of being operated in Haiti because of the lack of specialists, even though their family had the necessary financial resources."

The surgical team composed of 10 Italian cardiologists worked in 24/24 rotation at Saint-Damien Hospital to give these children a new chance to live in good health. This team was assisted by another follow-up team and BIOMED of 14 doctors and nurses. All these health specialists were supported by the Rotary Club of Port-au-Prince.
