Haiti - Social : Barbados refuses entry to 13 Haitian travelers

On Friday, 13 travelers of Haitian origin arrived in Barbados around 5:50 pm on flight 260 of Copa Airlines (which serves Barbados twice a week). After controlling for their situation, all 13 passengers were denied entry into Barbados and were held in administrative detention in the evening, pending repatriation to Haiti, confirmed Sargeant Michael Blackman, Acting Public Relations Officer for the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF).

On Saturday, at around 1.50 am, a security guard reported that two Haitian passengers in detention, Daniel Mauvais (50) and Frandy Calixte (23) had managed to escape. Immediately research operations were launched as well as calls for the collaboration of the population.

On Sunday evening Sergeant Michael Blackman of the RBPF announced that the two Haitian nationals who had fled had been caught and detained.

Recall that until measures are taken in the future to allow the free movement of people throughout the Caribbean, Haitians are now entitled to stay (6 months) WITHOUT VISA, with only their passport, in member countries. the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

However, entry into a member country automatically entitling to 6 months of stay without a visa, all Haitians wishing to travel to one of the CARICOM countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica , Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, will have to prove that they hold resources sufficient financial resources to live for a period of 6 months, without becoming a burden for the country visited. In addition, all CARICOM Member States reserve the right to refuse entry to any person whom they consider undesirable on their territory...
