Haiti - DR : The National Migration Table urges Haiti to reduce the exodus of its citizens

The organizations that compose the National Migration Table in the Dominican Republic (MENAMIRD) are asking the Haitian authorities to implement public development policies to reduce the structural causes of migration, in particular : the construction of infrastructures, the protection of the environment and job creation from a vision of sustainable development.

MENAMIRD coordinator William Charpantier said that Haiti as a signatory to the global pact for migration must respect the commitments it has made in this pact and promote actions to reduce the factors that drive Haitians to leave their country.

He also urges the Government of Haiti to provide its citizens with useful and reliable information and documents, so that if they decide to leave their country, the departure will be orderly and in accordance with the laws of the countries of destination.

Finally, Charpantier urges the international community to strengthen its cooperation and support for Haiti's development, in accordance with the provisions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.
