Haiti - Crisis : Religions for Peace launches a call for truce

While Haiti settles for the 8th week in a crisis that is likely to lead the population to an unprecedented humanitarian disaster and the UN fears a deadlock of the situation, the interfaith organization Religions for Peace Haiti in a statement says to be "deeply concerned by the unsuccessful resistance of the warring parties" and calls on them to engage in a process of peaceful resolution through dialogue, recalling that "The crisis has already claimed many innocent victims, is blocking streets, close schools and deprive millions of children of access to education. These effects will only exacerbate injustices and social inequalities to the detriment of the poorest [...]"

Religion for Peace launches a call for truce to all protagonists "[...] to put an immediate end to violence in all its forms and engage without delay in a process of inclusive dialogue [...] and find a win-win situation for the people Haitian [...]"

Religion for Peace asks civil society organizations to actively support any initiative of dialogue and peace to discourage hate speech...

Finally, the Organization draws the attention of the international community to the importance of a strong solidarity for peace and prosperity in Haiti and asks the friendly countries of Haiti to provide emergency humanitarian aid and to play an active and concrete role for the dialogue to be effective as soon as possible...
