Haiti - Heritage : The Art Center buys the gingerbread house of the Larsen family

The Art Center has just signed with the heirs of the Larsen family, the purchase of their gingerbread-style house from the 1920s, located at 22 rue Casseus in Pacot (Port-au-Prince).

This purchase was made possible thanks to an exceptional donation from its partners and loyal donors, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation (under the aegis of the Fondation de France) and the Fondation de France. Note that this Gingerbread-style house is part of an extremely precious and unique architectural ensemble of Port-au-Prince which has just been included in the list of sites to be protected by the "World Monuments Fund".

Let's recall that the old premises of the Art Center at 58 rue Roy had been destroyed during the earthquake of January 12, 2010. However, despite this destruction, for the past ten years, the Art Center has worked to save, protect and restore its collections, rich of more than 5,000 Haitian pieces (paintings, drawings, cut irons...) and thousands of archival documents.

The Art Center has made the choice to relocate to a house representative of the rich Haitian architectural heritage which it intends to restore to present its works there and continue to host its plastic arts courses and its cultural and artistic activities there at the 2021 horizon.
