Haiti - FLASH : The Dominican Republic will deploy special commando forces at the border

On Thursday, Major General Julio Florián Pérez, Commander General of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) launched a new plan to strengthen the Dominican-Haitian border.

According to what he explained during this launch, these operations aim to prevent, deter, contain and thwart predators of the environment and natural resources, human trafficking, drug trafficking and smuggling of goods.

To this end, reinforcements made up of members of the special forces commando and mountain battalions will provide the necessary personnel to strengthen the border area.

"We are leaving the operations running on our entire border and in the surrounding areas [more than 10,000 soldiers], in order to intensify our fight against any illegal activity," Major General Julio Florián Pérez said firmly.

He explained that from now on, the special forces will be in operations in vulnerable areas identified by the intelligence services and will ensure the strengthening of control at informal and difficult access points.

However, the Commander General of the Dominican Republic Army did not mention the number of men of these special forces who will be deployed and stationed in the border area.

It seems that the new President Abinader wants to put an end to a border that is too porous and that it will become more and more difficult for Haitians to smuggle into Dominican territory and to smuggle of all kinds to continue their lucrative and illegal activities...
