Haiti - Insecurity : New attacks against the premises of the Rectorate of the UEH

In a note, the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (UEH) draws to the attention of the public in general and the university community in particular, on abuses tending to transform the legitimate claims of those who demand justice and truth following the assassination of the student Grégory Saint-Hilaire, in acts of indiscriminate violence.

While the community of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) is still distressed by this tragedy, it turns out that "individuals claiming to be from the ENS began to address them the worst threats" on behalf of the student killed.

In this context, "[...] the Rectorate was on Monday and Tuesday October 6 the object of new attacks by a dozen individuals on motorcycles, including clearly identified students expelled from the UEH and others claiming the status of students [...]"

These violent attacks caused trauma to several employees, seven also causing significant private and public material losses, including more than a dozen vehicles belonging to staff and faculty that were vandalized by these individuals who say "they want justice".

While encouraging the community to continue to mobilize in order to obtain justice, the Rectorate calls for "[...] the most acute vigilance to avoid confusing delinquency and militancy, but also to prevent impostors from blurring the lines.

The death of Grégory Saint-Hilaire should not be used as a screen for personal settling of scores and the perpetuation of acts of vandalism which have so far remained unpunished."
