Haiti - Education : Training in «ethics and deontology» to the PNH

Following a need expressed by Sony Noelsaint, the Departmental Director of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) of the Grand Anse, the Section "Continuous training in the field" of the United Nations Police (UNPol) initiated in late July , a training to the attention of about twenty heads of different police station and sub-police stations of the Department of the Grand Anse. This training focused on ethics and the deontology, communication, leadership, but also the command and the respect of human rights issues.

Julien Honon Dadjo, Head of the Section "Continuous training in the field" explains that it is necessary that the police become familiar with the Code of Ethics of the National Police. Indeed, they have "the obligation of public service and the duty to prevent crime, and must treat them with dignity those apprehended [...] the police officers must give a good image of the institution they represent. They must be honest, impartial and show loyalty to the republican institutions."

Another important module of this training, the public reception in police stations. With this module, the police chief and their deputies learn to communicate with the public and know what words to use, or to avoid before the victims of violence. As emphasized Didier Schott, Commander of UNPol of the Grand Anse, "this allows the police officers to be closer of the people" adding that "other training could occur in other areas."

This training has been given to Cap Haitien and Jacmel.
