Haiti - Insecurity : The Secretary of State for Public Security, deplores the situation

At the meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), held last Saturday, the President Michel Martelly has given very firm instructions to all security forces to fight against insecurity.

Following this meeting, Aramick Louis, Secretary of State for Public Security, deplored the situation of insecurity in Haiti.

"... [...] the Government, the public force and also all the citizens deplored the situation of insecurity in the country. For this reason, a set of measure are taken both at government level, than at the level of the police to allow us to reassure the public, we are very concerned with what happens.

The measures that will be taken are aimed to protect the population and ensure that the criminal acts do not continue, as they currently do. At the level of the police, as you can see, there is a better visibility, there will be a greater visibility, there will be also a work of strengthening of instances that work against kidnapping in the country. All these decisions came out of the meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN), which was held on Saturday, a meeting during which the President of the Republic has took part and he gave very firm instructions to all the forces, so that we act with the greatest vigor, that we strengthen the intelligence service and also our operations, to put an end to this situation.

At the same time, we call for citizen participation, we believe that lasting results cannot be achieved without a real participation of the citizen. [...] In the past, in our country, there was a solidarity, a citizen vigilance... today we have this obligation because of a series of criminal acts [...] I do not want singled out Haiti, I do not want that everyone thinks that it is only in Haiti that there are insecurity, today, the criminality is transnational, that is why everyone should help the public forces, to enable us to provide the appropriate response to these questions..."
