Haiti - Economy : Haiti 4th economic partner of the Dominican Republic

During the first 7 months of 2024, exports from the Dominican Republic to Haiti recorded a decrease of 53.87 million dollars reaching a total of 304.33 million compared to 358.21 million in 2023 for the same period.

The data, provided by the Directorate General of Customs (DGA), reflect a contraction of 15.04% in trade between the two countries, reflecting the consequences of the border closure implemented by the Dominican government in September 2023 in response to the construction of a canal in Haiti with water intake on the Massacre River...

In response to this situation, in early October 2023, the Dominican government chose to relax some of its measures, authorizing the exchange of goods through temporary trade corridors.

In July 2024, trade with Haiti began to show signs of recovery, with Dominican exports to Haiti reaching $50.88 million, representing a growth of 5.43% compared to July 2023.

Haiti remains an important trading partner for the Dominican Republic, but now ranks between January and July 2024, as its fourth largest market, behind Switzerland ($424.13 million), the United States ($413.98 million) and India ($315.3 million). .

In a broader context, total exports of the Dominican Republic's national regime totaled $2.2 billion (2,264) between January and July 2024, representing a decrease of $26.57 million (1.16% compared to the previous year. This slight decrease reflects a difficult international economic environment.
