Haiti - Politic : Why is Haiti seeking a partnership with the United Arab Emirates?

Faced with the continuing critical situation in Haiti, both in terms of security and humanitarian issues, Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mansur.

For Conille, this visit is part of the Haitian Government's ongoing efforts to strengthen strong and strategic international partnerships, with a view to fostering increased security, lasting stability and an appropriate response to Haiti's security and humanitarian challenges.

The United Arab Emirates is recognized for its expertise in several key areas. It appears to be a major partner in finding solutions for Haiti. With advanced security expertise, the UAE has modern infrastructure, including professional police forces, developed military capabilities, and cutting-edge technological surveillance systems. This expertise offers Haiti a valuable opportunity to modernize its own security forces and address the challenges posed by gang violence and urban insecurity that plague the country.

In addition, the UAE’s experience in combating terrorism and organized crime networks is a strategic asset for Haiti. Emirati security know-how is fundamental to implementing effective strategies against armed gangs and insurgencies, and to strengthening the protection of Haitian citizens.

Economically, the UAE has also distinguished itself as a leader in supporting stability and post-conflict reconstruction. Its financial and logistical commitment to crisis regions, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, demonstrates its ability to provide substantial and rapid assistance, which is crucial for Haiti in its efforts to achieve economic recovery and security stabilization.

As a key player in global humanitarian efforts, the UAE also has the capacity to provide essential development support. This assistance could enable Haiti to address humanitarian challenges, such as mass population displacement, and improve access to health and education services for the most vulnerable populations.

Finally, the UAE’s investments in cutting-edge security technologies, including drones, cyber surveillance, and artificial intelligence, represent a significant opportunity for Haiti. These technologies could significantly improve the country’s capabilities in surveillance, intelligence, and response to criminal activity, particularly in areas under gang control.
