Haiti - Social : The First Lady salutes the courage of Haitian women

On the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which was held yesterday, the First Lady of the Republic of Haiti in a message advocates an egalitarian society while welcoming the courage of the Haitian women.

"The First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Ms. Sophia Martelly, salutes the courage of Haitian women in general and women's organizations in particular, on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women, this Friday, November 25.

Ms. Martelly, which reaffirmed on this occasion, her faith in the emergence of an egalitarian society based on the mutual respect and the peaceful coexistence between all its components, beyond the specificities of race, gender and ideology, undertakes, once again, to accompany the Haitian women in their long struggle in favor of respect for their dignity and their human rights.

The First Lady of the Republic calls, in this sense, the men to support women in this fundamental quest so that, never again, the discrimination, stereotypes, atrocities and violence against them, do not happen again. She maintains that the violence against women, whatever their form, is unacceptable, unjustifiable and inexcusable.

Ms. Martelly believes, moreover, that such objectives are far from being achieved without the economic empowerment of women and without the improvement of living conditions of the population. In this regard, the First Lady reaffirms the the will of the President of the Republic to continue to work to create an acceptable living environment for the benefit of the citizens of Haiti.

Mobilize our forces, to create a rule of law for all."
