Haiti - Social : Workshop on the modernization of registration system of the civil status

The Minister of Justice and Public Safety (MJSP), Me Michel Brunache, officially launched workshops on the modernization of the registration system of the civil status in Haiti, which took place on December 13-14. These workshops, organized with the support of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ecole nationale d'administration publique du Québec (ENAP), aim to consult the various groups of the civil society in order address their recommendations, an essential step in the revision of the legal framework of civil status conducted by the MJSP.

About thirty representatives of civil society debated key themes for a reform of the legal framework of civil status, among others: the content and wording of the acts of civil status, issues of nationality and statelessness, the technological challenge, the decentralization and deconcentration, the role and mandate of public institutions, of officers of civil status and non-state actors, as well as the public safety.

A modernized system, sustainable and non-discriminatory will enable all Haitians to exercise their fundamental right to civil identity.

These workshops are part of the Project of modernization and integration of the civil registry of the Government of Haiti, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), with the technical support of the OAS and the ENAP.
