Haiti - Politic : New Director for SEMANAH

Yesterday, Fresnel Normil, was installed at the head of the Maritime Service and Navigation of Haiti (SEMANAH) by engineer Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Transport, Energy and Communications (MTPTC).

On this occasion the Minister Rousseau stated that one of the missions of new director will be to work on the Maritime Code, promising the support of MTPTC in the performance of its task.

Fresnel Normil has for his part thanked the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly and the Prime Minister, Garry Conille for the confidence they have placed in him, saying aware of the necessity to carry out its mission in order to materialize the changes promised by the Head of the State, promising also to work with all relevant stakeholders and institutions for the success of the latter.

The Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti (SEMANAH) was established by decree on March 15, 1982, the functions of the SEMANAH are : preparation of draft laws regulating Merchant Marine, organize the maritime safety by ; vessel registration and periodic inspection ; supervision of construction of ships to be registered in Haiti ; monitoring operations of ships in Haitian waters with the help of Coast Guard ; control of ships by Port State ; the establishment and management of navigation aids, establish and regulate if necesary the rates of cabotage trade and promote the maritime affairs in Haiti.
