Haiti - USA : 169 repatriations this week in Cap-Haitien

The Trump administration deported 169 of our compatriots to Haiti this week in just 48 hours. On Thursday, July 16, 2026, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) charter flight transported 74 Haitians (including a pregnant woman). Upon arrival in Cap-Haitien, 32 of them were immediately transferred to prison due to their criminal records, while the other 42 each received 10,000 gourdes in financial assistance to cover initial expenses related to their return and reintegration.

The previous day's flight (Wednesday) : Another plane from Florida had already brought 95 other Haitians (including 11 women) back to Cap-Haitien.

These repatriations come just days before hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the United States are set to be deported under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Unless there are changes, on July 24, more than 300,000 Haitians in the United States will lose their Temporary Protected Status (TPS), leaving them vulnerable to detention and deportation.

U.S. authorities have warned the Haitian government that after TPS expires next week, it should expect at least two deportation flights per week. Those deported return with nothing but the clothes on their backs, even after spending years or decades in the United States.

"Increasing deportation flights to a country plagued by violence and instability, and deporting TPS beneficiaries who have built their lives, families, and communities in the United States, is an abomination," said Human Rights First, an organization that monitors deportation flights.
