Haiti - Social : The boat «Patience», sank into the Gulf of Gonâve

"Patience", a boat, providing the connection between Anse-à-Galets and Carriès, sank Saturday morning in the Gulf of Gonâve, five minutes after leaving the island (West). The boat, which has stopped due to engine failure, was overturned by large waves.

The boat of 7 meters long, equipped with two engines of 200 horsepower, was carrying 21 people (19 passengers and two crew members), according to the list of Service Maritime and Navigation of Haiti (SEMANAH), responsible for the registration of passenger boarding. At least 3 other people were on board without the knowledge of authorities, whose a sailor.

Rescuers were able to recover 18 survivors. A 19th person, Ms. J. Elysée, died in hospital Wesleyen of Anse-à-Galets, After being rescued in critical condition. Ms. Marie-Ganett Galiotte, the Vice-delegate of the arrondissement of the Gonâve, is among the survivors.

Rescuers of the Civil Protection, with support from Concern WorldWide and the Haitian Red Cross, but also SEMANAH, the Coast Guard and other individuals pursuing research on a number of boats to try to find other survivors.
