Haiti - Tourism : Launch of the program of classification of tourist facilities (West)

Friday, after a successful inspection tour in 163 tourist establishments across departments of South, Southeast, North and Northeast, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the program of classification of tourist facilities in the Department of the West. This program that aims to encourage operators to standardize the services provided by tourist establishments, was launched in early April in the Southern Department.

Remember that this initiative of the Ministry of Tourism aims to :

  • Regulate the tourism sector in Haiti ;

  • Establish a quality label at the national level ;

  • Provide the country with a predefined hotel classification system and of international standard ;

  • Improve the services offered in hotels ;

  • mprove the country's image on the international tourism scene.

10 inspectors trained by the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with the Mont Morency Quebec College, will be deployed from July 15 to August 16, 2013, as part of this mission. The Ministry of Tourism expects to touch 110 tourist establishments during this step.

Through this program, the Ministry intends approve the operation of establishments inspected by the Hibiscus label, depending on the quality of services provided. Hibiscus will replace the traditional star indicating the performance of the hotels. In this new scheme, 5 hibiscus and 1 hibiscus will express respectively the maximum and minimum quality of services offered by tourist establishments.
