The Ministry of Public Health presented this week the results of the Fifth Survey on Mortality, Morbidity and Utilization of Services (EMMUS V), conducted in Haiti during the year 2012.

EMMUS-V is a demographic survey designed to provide updated estimates on key basic demographic and health indicators that will be useful in planning, monitoring and to the evaluation of health programs and ofdevelopment in Haiti.

This report is essentially descriptive and presents the results according to certain socio-demographic characteristics such as: age group, marital status, place of residence (including IDP camps), the geographical department, the education level and the level of economic well-being. It also presents the trend of the key indicators in comparison with the levels observed in previous investigations. It highlights areas where progress has been made in recent years, but also those where there were none, allowing decision makers to make informed choices based on updated data.

This survey received financial support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID / Haiti), the United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF), the Canadian Agency for International Development (CIDA) , the Global Fund for Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
