Haiti - Agriculture : Transplanting of 1,5 million coffee seedlings...

Friday as part of its "Feed the Future West/Winner" the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development and the Ministry of Environment, launched the campaign of transplantation of 1,5 million coffee seedlings in Kenscoff.

3 years after being planted, coffee seedlings are ready for transplanting. This campaign is expected to last until October 2013, is funded by USAID to the tune of $ 300,000, derived from overall project USAID/Winner, with a total budget of 127 million over 5 years. Note that the USAID project is in its fourth year of existence.

This program will allow not only to just over 1,800 beneficiaries of Matheux and Cul-de-Sac to be recapitalized, but the transplantation of seedlings will also help protect the environment by fighting against soil erosion caused by excessive cutting of trees.

Mr. Mario Kerby, Deputy Director of the project "Winner", plans to continue training with groups of coffee farmers, in order to allowing them to assimilate the techniques of planting and ensure the success of this program.
