Haiti - Economy : Ronald Décembre gave explanations on the increase in customs tariffs

While critics on increases in customs tariffs increase, Ronald Décembre, the Secretary of Tax Reform, has provided explanations, which should enhance the understanding of the political opponents of the Government.

Ronald Décembre, explained that the upward revision of some 500 customs tariffs lines concerned finished products [eg flour] and unlike previous governments, that increased customs revenues by increasing prices of raw materials, the new government policy is, above all, to strengthen existing industries, encourage Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and create jobs.

It is against this perspective that the Secretary of State for Tax Reform, said that the taxes of 700 tariff lines of raw materials were reduced from 15% to 0% [eg wheat] with the objective to promote the import of raw materials and their transformation into a finished product in Haiti.

Ronald Décembre says that these sectoral Customs Tariff increases will be beneficial for the economy and they benefit both the processing enterprises than the population.
