Haiti - Last Hour : The point at the border posts

Anse-a-Pitre:

The border in Anse a Pitres is now totally closed. The decision was taken by the Dominican authorities after a suspected case of cholera was detected today in Anse a Pitres. Though, according to the departmental heath authority, it was not cholera. Situation is being monitored.

Malpasse:

The Immigration Supervisor in Malpasse informed the Regional Office that:

- People pass the border in both directions freely, with the exception of the "petits commercants" from Haiti who cannot access Jimani's market. Control over food and drink still on as yesterday.

- The market on the Haitian side is functioning.

- Cars and trucks go through in both directions.

- Calls to the commercial bus-companies revealed that the commercial buses have also crossed the border to/fro the Dominican Republic

Belladere:

Same situation as yesterday:

- People with passports can cross, however private vehicles and trucks cannot cross the border.

- Humanitarian workers and vehicles with humanitarian assistance can enter into Haiti from the Dominican Republic.

- Authorities might authorize the bi-national market to take place on Friday. However, this has to be confirmed on Friday, depending on the developments of the health situation in Haiti.

Ouanaminthe:

The situation is normal at the Ouanaminthe/Dajabon crossing border bridge

- The Dominican authorities have maintained restriction of entry into the Dominican Republic.

- Only holders of traveling documents (passport) are allowed access in both sides

- All those entering into the Dominican territory are compulsorily requested to wash their hands and issued a pass (a small stamped piece of paper from the Dajabon Health services)

- Vehicles and commercial trucks normally enter the Haitian territory and vice versa

- Apparently the Dominican soldier are taking advantage of the restriction - they establish a corrupt access fee of 100 gourdes for those without passport

- There are less Haitian street boys at Dajabon and there is a visibly slow down in the usual economic activities along the border area
